As one young boy in Australia learned, eagles are fierce predators. Soaring above us, eagles are always looking out for a meal or snack. This child was sitting there watching a bird show and fidgeting with his zipper when an eagle from the bird show decided to try and grab the child.
Not the sharpest photo but lucky just to snap it. At a nature park in Alice Springs we decided to go to a bird show the young boy in the green kept pulling his zipper up and down. For some reason the Wedge Tailed Eagle did not like it and instead of flying over to the log he is meant to for a photo opportunity he flew straight at the young boy. The show was quickly cancelled and the boy taken off to first aid. Those talons are huge he was a very lucky young boy.
For centuries there have been paintings, photographs, newspaper stories, and rumors of eagle attacks. They are hard to authenticate because when it happens, you probably won’t have a camera ready to snap a pic. Luckily, some people were able to get images and video and these are in the article.
For a distance in a flight of 100 yards, female eagles can carry three pounds and the male can carry two pounds. That doesn’t mean they won’t try to carry something larger and their talons can do some serious damage.
